Car Insurance 7 Add-ons You Should Know If You Are A Car Owner!

When you buy car insurance, the base plan only covers the basics. But real life is messy. Roads are crowded, weather changes fast, and accidents happen when you least expect them. That’s where add-ons come in.

Think of them like small upgrades that protect your car, your money, and your peace of mind. Over the years, working with insurance buyers and claims teams, one thing is clear. People who choose the right add-ons save more during claims. Let’s break it down in simple terms so you can choose wisely. According to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), standard policies legally deduct up to 50% for depreciation on rubber, nylon, and plastic parts, and 30% on fiberglass components when settling a claim.

What Are Car Insurance Add-ons

Car insurance add-ons are extra covers you can attach to your main policy. You pay a small extra premium, and in return, you get better protection.

Here are some common add-ons you’ll see:

• Zero Depreciation Cover
• Engine Protection Cover
• Roadside Assistance
• Return to Invoice Cover
• Passenger Cover
• Consumables Cover
• No Claim Bonus Protection

Each one solves a different problem you may face on the road.

These Small Add-ons Can Save You Big Money During Accidents!

1. Zero Depreciation Cover

Normally, during a claim, insurers deduct depreciation on car parts, which reduces the claim amount. With this add-on, you get the full cost of replaced parts! It is best suited for new cars.

2. Return to Invoice Cover

If your car is stolen or totally damaged, this add-on ensures the insurer pays the full invoice value of the car, including road tax and registration! Or, you’ll get only the depreciated IDV.

3. Engine Protection Cover

Your basic policy usually does not cover engine damage caused by water entering engine, oil leakage or hydrostatic lock. This add-on protects you from huge repair bills!

4. Roadside Assistance

Car breaks down on the road? This add-on provides 24/7 roadside assistance, including towing, flat tyre support, battery jumpstart, and emergency fuel!

5. No Claim Bonus Protection

Normally if you claim insurance, you lose your No Claim Bonus (NCB). With this add-on, you can make a claim but still keep your NCB!

6. Consumables Cover

Standard policies don’t cover consumables like engine oil, nuts & bolts, coolant, and brake oil. With this add-on, these small costs are also reimbursed during a claim!

7. Passenger Cover

Basic policies mainly cover the driver. This add-on provides insurance coverage for passengers too in case of injury, permanent disability, or death during an accident!

New car? Go for zero depreciation and return to invoice.
