Buying a car is a major decision for your family. A few years ago, finding a budget-friendly electric vehicle was very difficult. Many buyers searched for electric cars in India under 5 lakhs, but options were limited to experimental models. Today, the Indian automotive market has changed completely.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), EV sales have grown by over 30% this year. Car companies now offer proper family hatchbacks and compact SUVs with amazing battery technology at highly accessible prices.

According to industry data from SIAM and government EV adoption reports, running an electric car can cost as little as ₹1 to ₹1.5 per km, compared to ₹6 to ₹8 per km for many petrol cars.

FAQs About Affordable Electric Cars

Which are the affordable electric cars in India?

The most affordable options available today include the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, Tata Punch EV, Citroen eC3, and the PMV EaS-E.

How do electric cars work?

Electric cars do not use petrol or diesel engines. Instead, they store electrical energy in a large battery pack. This power is sent to an electric motor that turns the wheels smoothly and silently.

What is the maintenance cost of affordable electric cars?

The maintenance cost is very low because EVs have fewer moving parts. You do not need to pay for engine oil changes, spark plugs, or air filters. This saves your family thousands of rupees every year.

Which electric car is 4.79 lakh?

The PMV EaS-E is a unique micro electric car priced at Rs 4.79 Lakh ex-showroom. It is a small, two-seater vehicle designed specifically for quick city runs.

What is the 80% rule for EV?

The 80% rule means you should stop fast-charging your electric car once the battery reaches 80%. Charging slows down significantly after this point to protect the long-term health and life of the battery pack.

Which is India’s cheapest EV?

With the introduction of the new Battery-as-a-Service rental plans, the Tata Tiago EV is currently India’s most accessible entry point, starting at an attractive price of Rs 4.69 Lakh plus a nominal battery rental fee per kilometre.
