What Is Address Proof for a Driving Licence Application?

Address proof for a driving licence application means submitting government-approved documents that verify your current residential address. This requirement is set by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with its updated amendments. It helps authorities connect your driving records with your verified address for legal purposes, official notices, and future communication.

According to the latest guidelines, some documents, such as electricity bills, water bills, or other utility statements, must usually be issued within the last three months to remain valid. If you submit incorrect, expired, or unacceptable address proof, your driving licence application may be rejected, leading to delays and the need to reapply.
