Why Choose An EV Car in India Under 10 Lakhs?

You might wonder why you should switch to electric power. We need to look at the simple math. A standard petrol car gives you 15 kilometers per liter. Petrol costs about 100 rupees. That means you spend around 7 rupees for every kilometer. An electric car uses electricity that costs 8 rupees per unit. You end up spending just 1 rupee per kilometer.

Auto industry expert Rahul Sharma states, “Families can save over fifty thousand rupees a year just by switching to a small electric car.”

Electric motors have very few moving parts inside them. You do not need to change the engine oil. You do not need new spark plugs. Your service bill drops to almost nothing. You also get a silent cabin. Your kids can sleep in peace during long drives. The Vahan portal data from 2023 shows that electric car sales grew by 114 percent. This proves that Indian families trust this new technology.

How To Pick The Best EV Car Under 10 Lakhs

1. Usage & Range: If you drive mostly within the city, a 200-250 km range (e.g., MG Comet) is sufficient. For occasional longer trips, opt for the Tata Tiago or Punch EV, which offer better range and faster charging.
2. Home Charging Infrastructure: The best EV experience requires a dedicated home charger. Ensure your parking spot allows for a 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW charger installation.
3. Safety Rating: Tata leads with high-safety, 5-star rated EVs in this segment.
4. Service Network: Tata Motors dominates the service space, while MG is growing its presence.
5. Running Costs: EVs offer significantly lower running costs than petrol/CNG, with minimal maintenance.
